Diploma6 - Orientation and Methodology
Orientation and Methodology

The psychodynamic approach does not indicate adherence to any one particular school of thought or practice; the course will draw on more than one psychodynamic model. As indicated in the Syllabus, above, the course will be further enriched by extended introductions to other therapeutic approaches.

The methodology of the course will be strongly and consistently experiential. This approach is offered in the belief that learning from experience offers more reliable and durable self-development and growth in skills than other modes.

While the advanced skills training sessions will thus work experientially as much as possible, each meeting will in addition (as indicated above) include a session devoted to experiential learning groups: the Awareness Groups. The Awareness Group to which each trainee is allocated will as far as possible retain the same membership throughout the course, and work with the same group conductor. The matters referred to or dealt with by trainees during these sessions will remain confidential, though the group leaders will be free to provide the course directorate with a report of trainees' general progress in self-awareness and ability to use the group as a resource (see 'Assessment').
