Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling - Aim and Objectives

 
Aim

To enable trainees to become safe and competent Psychodynamic Counsellors. Having obtained the Diploma, students will be eligible to proceed at once to Affiliate Membership of COSCA and thence to Counsellor Accreditation by COSCA (and/or BACP) and have their names entered on the UK Register of Counsellors (UKRC).

Objectives

The following objectives will provide a learning process to meet the aim of the course:

  • To present a cohesive synthesis of Psychodynamic theory.
  • To provide advanced practical training in counselling skills.
  • To elucidate and promote the dynamic linkages between personal therapy and development, informed and reflective practice, and theory.
  • To promote and support supervised practice counselling on the part of trainees, in accordance with COSCA's requirements
  • Within the overall framework of the psychodynamic training, to provide extended introductions to other methods and approaches in order to enhance trainees' understanding and ability, and promote professional exchanges with colleagues.
