The Course will be Psychodynamic in its orientation. The Psychodynamic approach focuses on and exploits the links between clients' current situations and problems, and significant events in early life. Understanding of the client's current issues is further enhanced by attention to the working relationship between client and counsellor. Ways in which all these dimensions are influenced by unconscious processes in (especially) the client's internal world of both past and present are also elucidated in the interests of the therapeutic benefit to the client.
We understand the term 'Psychodynamic' to refer to a corpus of therapeutic theory and practice. This course will present a cohesive synthesis of theory, which takes inspiration from several sources, wedded to a particular way of working.
In its operation the course will use experiential methods in accordance with the requirements of different parts of the curriculum. The work in groups will draw on the tradition and practice of Group Analysis.
